People Are Reporting Live From Area 51 And Heres How It Looks

The internet is known for its power to unite people by the causes they believe in. The worst part is – some of the causes are borderline ridiculous. One of them is the infamous viral sensation “Storm Area 51 – They Can’t Stop All of Us” which was started on Facebook. The seemingly innocent event intended to be a joke spiraled out of control when 2 million people RSVP’ed and put government officials on their toes. The infamous viral event “Storm Area 51” is happening today and here are the first photos of it Image credits: Ever since it was created on June 27, many of us have wondered what would happen on the designated day – the 20th of …

Marijuana Business Leaders Meet With Beto ORourke On His Legalization Plan

OAKLAND, Calif. ― Hours after Democratic presidential candidate to legalize marijuana and repair the racist injustices of the war on drugs, weed industry leaders met with him here on Thursday to discuss the merits and limits of such proposals. The former Texas congressman hosted a roundtable gathering with about a dozen participants ― mostly people of color ― that included business owners, local officials and community organizers. The discussion touched upon the challenges in creating a legalized marijuana industry nationwide while avoiding America’s ongoing history of racism and the injustices of the capitalist system. “When [weed is legal] at the federal level, and the tobacco and pharmaceutical industries come in, where is the protection for the small businesses and the people …

U.S. Lifts Tariffs On 400 Chinese Products, Trump Wants ‘Complete’ Trade Deal

Trump, speaking to reporters at a White House meeting with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, said the United States was taking in billions of dollars from tariffs imposed on Chinese products, adding that the total would soon reach $100 billion. China agreeing to more agricultural purchases would not be enough, he said. “We’re looking for a complete deal. I’m not looking for a partial deal,” he said, adding that he did not need a deal to happen before the 2020 presidential election. The United States Trade Representative’s office issued three Federal Register notices exempting a wide range of products from tariffs in response to requests from U.S. companies, which argued that the levies would cause economic hardship. Chinese and U.S. negotiators …

Dear Depressed Christian: If You Do Nothing Else Today, Please Read This

ShareTweetPin Growing up as a church kid, who suffered from severe depression, I was not met with the type of counsel and comfort one might have expected. I was faced with a surprising amount of misunderstanding, terrible advice and total estrangement in some cases. Now that I am older and hopefully a bit wiser for the wear, I see that there is a much greater awareness about anxiety and depression in a general collective sense in the world. However, it is still so often spoken about in hushed tones within the church. We need to change that. Tragically as a Christian community, we keep witnessing the effects of mental illness within our church leadership. Following the suicide of some prominent …

Hurricane Humberto moves past Bermuda and leaves most of the island in the dark

(CNN)Bermuda will be feeling only some leftover winds Thursday as Hurricane Humberto keeps moving further into the Atlantic. The island was still feeling the storm’s tropical storm-force winds Thursday morning, which extended 220 miles from the center. After the hurricane’s swipe at the island, the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service reported 17 minor incidents including gas leaks, ninemedical incidents and three structural fires that were not serious, the government said. Bermuda rarely sees storms asbig and powerful as Humberto. Only 21 hurricanes have passed within 100 miles of the Atlantic Ocean paradise over the past century, with Hurricane Gonzalo in 2014 being the last to make landfall there. As the spinner continues over the ocean, it’s expected to impact parts …

We Found Proof One Of The ‘Bachelor’ Contestants Is Only There For Fame | Betches

During a deep dive into the new Bachelor contestants, most of whom have deactivated their social media accounts/online presence in general, one white-toothed, fake-lashed, soon-to-be fit tea dealer stood high above the rest, and proved my theory that the first generation of people who spent their lives aspiring to be on The Bachelor have arrived. Enter: Mykenna Dorn, from Langely, British Columbia. At a mere 22 years old, Mykenna has, in theory, been watching The Bachelor franchise since she only five years old, and very clearly has been hoping for a long time to be a member of Bachelor Nation. A simple Google search of her first name and hometown brought me to a lackluster LinkedIn profile with no photos, no …

How Much Is A Whale Worth? Millions To Fighting Climate Change

A team of economists have attempted to put a dollar value on the contribution whales make to fighting climate change. They’ve come up with some truly astounding figures, with typical whales being worth $2 million dollars each, making for a cumulative large cetacean value of more than a trillion dollars. Whales feed in nutrient-rich waters off continental coasts or at great depths, and then return those nutrients to areas that need them more in the course of their great migrations. Unlike fish droppings, which mostly sink to the ocean floor, whale poop floats where surface algae can get at it.  The result is that algal phytoplankton get the nitrogen and iron, among other things, they need to flourish. This allows …

Early Whale Discovered In Senegal Used “Hands” To Swim Surprisingly Far Across The Oceans

The evolutionary history of whales is strange, to say the least. After the first tetrapods (animals with arms and legs) climbed out of the oceans and began walking on land, millions of years ago, a group of four-legged mammals then transitioned back to the seas to become the sleek cetaceans we know and love today. That early transition from “limb to fin” is not very well understood, though, as limb bones of early cetaceans in the fossil record are scarce. Now, the remains of a new protocetid – “legged whale” – found in Senegal is offering an insight into how these proto-whales propelled themselves across the seas. Apparently, they doggy-paddled. The little we do know about the four-legged mammals that …

TRUMP OR WARREN? FIGHT ERUPTS OVER WHO HAS THE BIGGER CROWD SIZES Talking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump got in some fresh digs about the state’s problem with homelessness, saying, …

‘I thought it was basically amazing’: readers’ pick of the best movies since 2000

From No Country for Old Men to Paddington 2, Guardian readers on the best films of the 21st century so far Pans Labyrinth (2006) It reminds me how hard it is to leave the relative certainties of childhood: Amanda, 57, Spain It is an extraordinary, visceral depiction of the growth to awareness of a young girl, on the cusp of adolescence caught up in a savage world where not even retreat into fantasy can provide a moral framework. There are, of course, many coming of age films but none, I think, as poetic and haunting as this. It was the first film my eldest son took me to see and at 18 he was just emerging out of the chaos …

UPDATED: Caroline Calloway Is Responding To ‘The Cut’ Essay | Betches

Before I even got a chance to post a painstaking piece in which I attempted to recap the latest Caroline Calloway drama, spurred by a recent essay in The Cut, I made the mistake of checking Instagram, and I saw that Caroline had uploaded what I assume to be the first of many rebuttals to Natalie Beach’s essay about their friendship (among other topics). To provide a brief recap: Caroline Calloway is an Instagram influencer (of what variety, I’m not entirely sure—travel? Writing? Both?). Natalie and Caroline were friends, Caroline became big on Instagram, and they collaborated on her Instagram captions, and later, on her memoir. This all blew up when Natalie wrote an essay for The Cut about what it was like working and …

Following reports, several Women’s March members — including the founder Theresa Shook— and supporting organizations In addition to criticism from within their organization, Mallory, Sarsour and Perez have also faced vicious attacks from conservatives aiming to paint them as threats to the United States. With the co-chairs resigning, the Women’s March announced 16 incoming board members, which include women of various faiths from across the country. …

To The People Who Never Fail To See The Light In Us

Rania Naim Updated September 15, 2019 By Katy Anne To the ones who see the light in us when it’s dark inside. To the ones who remind us that we’re not broken and that we can always heal. To the ones who bring hope back to us when we lose it all. The ones who remind us of their own struggles and …
